Doctor's Appointment

Yesterday I had the appointment that I have been dreading. And yes it was as bad as they had told me.

So I go in and they have me get into a gown and then take me to the room where they will be doing the proceedure, it is an x-ray room and an x-ray table on which they have set up a little bed of sorts. The doctor's assistant lays me down on the bed and talks me through the proceedure, she gives me about the same explaination as my obgyn had given me. Then we wait for the obgyn who is doing the proceedure to come in. When he (yes he) comes in he gives me a more detialed explaination of the whole thing. He explains that the catheder that he will be putting up into my cervix will be held in place by a little balloon which will cause me cramps, he also tells me that he will be injecting contrast (dye of sorts) into my uterus to see if it overflows into my fallopian tubes. After explaining things he starts to get everything ready for the proceedure, then he has the assistant go and get the radiologist (who is a man). Once the radiologist comes into the room I get into the "position" and the proceedure starts. So here I am, who have never had a male obgyn with two guys, who are complete strangers to me, looking at my "hooha" (as my sister calls it). The obgyn puts the catheder up through my cervix and then lets me know that he is inflating the balloon, what follows is the most intense cramping I have as of yet felt, and I have pretty extreme menstral cramps, they are so painful I feel like throwing up and I start crying out in pain. The Doctor's assistant is there trying to comfort me and I can hear the obgyn talking quickly and talking about the contrast and seeing if they can see it spill over, finally, after truthfully not too long it spills and they take everything out. For me it was a bit of a blur as I was trying to block out the pain and being pretty unsuccessful. After they finish the men leave the room and I lay there in pain and realize I have broken out in a cold sweat. The Doctor's assistant comforts me a bit more and tells me I can use the bathroom that is right off the x-ray room to change and clean up. After it is all over I end up cramping for another 2 to 3 hours and then everything calms down.

Good news is they know right away that I am healthy and my tubes are both open. And luckily I only cramped the day of and not at all today. But oh, if they have to use the same proceedure to impregnate me I dont think I will be looking forward to that at all. Sometimes I really wish we could go about this the easy, cheap and enjoyable way and just have sex to have kids. Blah.
